Dehydrogenation of
Heat-Treated Parts
The postplate metal finishing services of Master Finish Company includes dehydrogenation bake off.
Heat-treated steel components may require dehydrogenation bake off after plating to remove hydrogen from the part and prevent embrittlement. Heat-treated
parts are heated, or baked, immediately after plating to remove hydrogen molecules from the metal, providing stability and durability.
A typical dehydrogenation bake cycle requires plated parts to enter an oven within 30 minutes after plating. Dwell time in the 200°C
(400°F) oven may continue 2 to 4 hours or longer. Parts are then allowed to cool for subsequent inspection and packaging.
