PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) coating is the application of a hard, thin film to a plated surface to add both decorative and functional properties, depending upon the application.

On tooling, PVD coating helps machining tools resist wear and help reduce the pickup of contaminants that slow production and cause downtime. Because friction is also reduced, machine tools can run faster and thus increase throughput. PVD coating reduces or eliminates entirely the need for cutting fluids and other lubricants.

PVD coatings can also be applied to appliances, plumbing fixtures, door hardware, electric components, automotive trim and marine fittings. In these applications, the PVD coating adds a brilliant, decorative topcoat finish that is very hard and wear resistant.
